“Traffic chaos”

Clichés reconsidered

This phrase evokes images of car chases from The Blues Brothers or Mad Max but what you actually experience is nowhere near as lively or entertaining. Also, with the exception of rare cases such as the blackouts in Sydney earlier this week, “traffic chaos” is completely predictable.  If it rains a lot, or if everyone tries to use Victoria Road at the same time, which happens twice every weekday, there will be traffic congestion.

Of course, “chaos” sounds much more exciting and interesting than “congestion” or “nuisance” or “boredom”.
