Australia Day

Late last week A Current Affair* ran a story whinging about how terrible it is that all the Australia Day tat is made in China, and claimed that this was “the ultimate insult”.

This sums up the new flag-waving patriotism so well that unravelling it would be like trying to explain a joke.

*my eldest daughter is addicted to it; it is not a situation that is at all satisfactory but I can’t see how banning it from the house would be any better than tolerating it occasionally and trying to subject it to critical analysis now and then

(No, I don’t only read the Murdoch press — I just keep getting linked to it.)
