Aphorisms (iii – wood beez)

Would you be a philosopher? Would you, could, you, on a train? Would you, could you, with your brain? Would you, could you, in a car? Would you, could you, in a jar? Would you, could you, in a cart? Would you, could you, reading Barthes? Would you be a philosopher? No, I did not think so, sir.

Would you be a philosopher? Then you have chosen to endure the hardest trial which a living soul ever faced. You must be willing to leave behind all your worldly attachments and to stare unflinchingly into the very tomb of reason, where you will see your dearest beliefs turning to bitter ashes. On the upside, the hours are great.

Would you be a philosopher? Oh, you would, would you? Would you just.
