The young will always be surprised that the old were once young. The old, too, are surprised by this, but then their memory isn’t what it was.

And they came to him and said, Master, six months ago, on the advice of our cousin, we went deep into a portfolio of diverse, predominantly investment-grade corporate obligations, backed by a most grievous credit default swap. What shall we do?

And he said unto them: lo, verily it is written that they that sow the wind shall reap the whirlwind. For would you eat of an hot dog that was described as “predominantly food-grade meat”? No, wait, bad example.

Trust not in the maker of pithy maxims. I bet you don’t even know what pith is.
