The Pillowman

by Martin McDonagh, directed by Craig Illot, Belvoir St.

MUM [who is going to see it the next day] So what did you think of it?

ME: Erm… it was ok. In parts. I liked the performances.

MUM: But it wasn’t great?

ME: It was a bit “Oh boo-hoo, poor writers.”

MUM: Oh, one of those.

See also Alison Croggon’s review, which I don’t have much to add to, except to say that the comic interplay between the interrogators is genuinely hilarious, a little like The Third Policeman if it were set in a totalitarian dictatorship; and that Martin Csokas is a really, really good actor.
