London to Edinburgh

Cooling Towers

I was expecting the skies to be different, but the exact nature of the difference was a surprise. The skies in England and Scotland seem to be a part of the landscape. Even when cloudy, Sydney’s skies are further away.

(Scribbled notes in travel diary from around this stage of the trip: “there is certain kind of person who values fine, sunny weather above most other things. Australian society is what you get when a whole continent is settled by those people.”)

Disclaimer: any Romantic reading of the above photograph – beautiful English countryside v horrid power station, global warming, whatever – is your own business. I just liked what the light was doing with the water vapour.
