I was expecting the skies to be different, but the exact nature of the difference was a surprise. The skies in England and Scotland seem to be a part of the landscape. Even when cloudy, Sydney’s skies are further away.
(Scribbled notes in travel diary from around this stage of the trip: “there is certain kind of person who values fine, sunny weather above most other things. Australian society is what you get when a whole continent is settled by those people.”)
