Origins

A rather venturesome political division of Australia into ten states, from 1838.

I have discovered that my convict ancestor, Granny Davis, did not steal a bolt of lace: it was a silver watch. And because she was tried and convicted in Dorchester, she isn’t in the searchable Old Bailey. Oh well.

  1. The only convict ancestor of mine of whom I’m aware, Jabez King, was transported for stealing a lamb. He was a place near Oxford (called Whitby, I think).

  2. “Jabez” is a terrific first name.
